Cashew Cookie Dough Smoothie Bowl Ingredients
This recipe needs a few ingredients to make the most perfect creamy smoothie bowl.
For the smoothie bowl base
- Organic Frozen Pitaya: Also known as dragon fruit, is the key ingredient to make this recipe bright pink!
- Organic Frozen Strawberries: I love using strawberries to enhance the color of this recipe and it complements the Pitaya nicely.
- Organic Frozen Banana: A frozen banana adds more sweetness and creaminess to this smoothie bowl.
- Organic Cashew Butter: I used cashew butter, but you can use any nut butter that you enjoy.
- Organic Unsweetened Non-dairy Milk: You only need a little liquid to blend, since it’s a smoothie bowl. I used unsweetened almond milk, but you can use any non-dairy milk that you enjoy.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Flaxseeds are loaded with nutrients, high in omega-3 fats, rich in dietary fiber, and you can’t even taste them. They are completely optional, so no problem if you don’t have them…yet!
For the cashew cookie dough topping
- Organic Almond Flour: I used almond flour for the base of this cookie dough recipe.
- Organic Cashew Butter: To maintain the cashew theme, but you can use any nut butter.
- Organic Vanilla Extract: Just a little, but you can totally omit.
- Organic Maple Syrup: To add to the sweetness.
- Organic Dark Chocolate Chips: It wouldn’t be cookie dough, if there weren’t any chocolate chips. Be sure your chocolate chips are dairy-free.
How to make this Cashew Cookie Dough Smoothie Bowl
For the Cookie Dough: First, make the cookie dough. Add all the cookie dough ingredients in a medium bowl and stir together until dough forms. You can place the cookie dough in fridge while you prepare the smoothie or leave it at room temperature.

For the Smoothie: Next, add all the smoothie ingredients to your blender. Start off by adding a 1/4 cup of non-dairy milk and add more if needed. The texture should be thick.

Serve: Transfer the smoothie into a bowl and top with cookie dough, chocolate covered chia seeds, and cacao nibs.
Tips for making the perfect smoothie bowl
To make the perfect smoothie bowl, make sure to follow these tips!
- Be sure to use a frozen fruit to achieve a thick consistency.
- Start with a little liquid as possible, and add more only as needed. You can always add more, but once you add too much, you can’t go back! Pausing in between blending to scrape down sides helps as well.
- Use a high-speed blender, with a tamper, to ensure that your smoothie bowl achieves a thick and creamy texture.
- Place your serving bowl in the freezer before you begin preparing this recipe and remove it when smoothie is ready. This will ensure that your smoothie bowl stays cold as you enjoy it.
Where Do You Find Pitaya?
Pitaya, also known as Dragon fruit, has the most vibrant pink color. Pitaya can be found in majority of health stores, like Whole Foods. It comes in frozen packs, already portioned out, so all you have to do is take out of the pack and add to your blender.
Fresh versus Frozen Fruit
The key to making smoothie bowls is using frozen fruit. By adding frozen fruits to your smoothies, you will achieve a thicker result, so that you can add toppings, without them sinking. Also, don’t add too much liquid, because it is a smoothie bowl after all. I usually start with 1/4 cup of milk and then add more, if needed, until I reach the desired thickness.
Smoothie Bowl FAQ’s
Can I make this Smoothie Bowl a Smoothie?
Most definitely! This smoothie bowl can be as thick or thin as you desire. Add extra non-dairy milk, about a cup, to make this smoothie bowl a smoothie.
Can I add Protein Powder?
Yes! To increase the protein content of this smoothie bowl, add a scoop of your favorite organic protein powder. I recommend using an organic unflavored protein powder or organic vanilla protein powder for this smoothie bowl recipe.
Can I make this Smoothie Bowl in Advance?
Unfortunately, no. I do not recommend making this smoothie bowl in advance. However, you can definitely prep all the ingredients the night before by adding them to a freezer safe bag. That way when you’re ready for it, all you need to do is add the ingredients, along with non-dairy milk to your high-speed blender.
