This almond joy smoothie is creamy and perfectly sweet, so it actually tastes like you’re indulging into a candy bar. Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
- Organic Frozen Banana: A frozen banana adds thickness, sweetness, and creaminess to this smoothie bowl.
- Organic Frozen Cauliflower: I know it sounds crazy, but adding frozen cauliflower is where the thick & fluffy texture comes from. Don’t worry, you can’t taste it! I recommend using store bought frozen cauliflower, or even frozen cauliflower rice, because it blends up nicely.
- Organic Pitted Medjool Dates: Adding dates to the recipe transpires the most amazing texture & provides the perfect amount of sweetness. Also, be sure to make sure that your dates are pitted.
- Organic Cacao Powder: To make the smoothie chocolatey! To be clear, cacao powder is different from regular dutch cocoa powder. Cacao powder is pure, raw cacao versus processed. Plus, cacao is rich in magnesium.
- Organic Almond Butter: Add a touch of creaminess & healthy fat with a some almond butter. Almond butter is essential to achieve that true authentic candy bar flavor.
- Organic Shredded Coconut: Is there anything better than chocolate and some shredded coconut? YUM!
- Organic Almond Extract: Adding almond extract to this chocolate coconut smoothie transpires the flavors to next-level delicious. Trust me! The almond almond extract makes this smoothie bowl taste like almond joy ice cream.
- Organic Full-Fat Coconut Milk: I love using coconut milk in this recipe, because it adds a tropical, creamy flavor, that is perfect for this chocolate coconut smoothie. However, if you don’t have any coconut milk, feel free to use any milk that you have on hand.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Flaxseeds are loaded with nutrients, high in omega-3 fats, rich in dietary fiber, and you can’t even taste them. They are completely optional, so no problem if you don’t have them…yet!

Tips for Making the Perfect Smoothie Bowl
To make the perfect smoothie bowl, make sure to follow these tips!
- Use a frozen banana and frozen cauliflower to achieve a thick consistency.
- The general rule is to start with a little liquid as possible, and add more only as needed. You can always add more, but once you add too much, yuo can’t go back! Pausing in between blending to scrape down sides helps as well.
- Use a high-speed blender, with a tamper, to ensure that your smoothie bowl achieves a thick and creamy texture.
- Place your serving bowl in the freezer before you begin preparing this recipe and remove it when smoothie is ready. This will ensure that your smoothie bowl stays cold as you enjoy it.
Fresh versus Frozen Ingredients
The key to making smoothie bowls is using frozen ingredients. By adding frozen banana & frozen cauliflower to your smoothie, you will achieve a thicker result, so that you can add toppings, without them sinking. I usually start with a little non-dairy milk and add more, if needed, until I reach the desired thickness.
