Red Velvet Cake Smoothie Bowl Ingredients
This red velvet cake smoothie is creamy and perfectly sweet, so it actually tastes like you’re indulging into a bowl of red velvet cake. Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
- Organic Frozen Banana: A frozen banana adds more sweetness and creaminess to this smoothie bowl!
- Organic Beets: The star of this smoothie is beet. It provides a vibrant, red color and subtle, earthy flavor. Plus, beets are also loaded with antioxidants. Can’t beet that! I used precooked beets that I bought at Whole Foods. You can cook your own beets or even used raw beets. If using raw, you’ll want to peel it first and then cut it into smaller pieces, so that it’s easier to blend.
- Organic Frozen Raspberries: Raspberries compliment this smoothie bowl perfectly. Also, they’re rich in antioxidants and they’re an excellent source of fiber.
- Organic Cacao Powder: To make the smoothie chocolatey! To be clear, cacao powder is different from regular dutch cocoa powder. Cacao powder is pure, raw cacao versus processed. Plus, cacao is rich in magnesium.
- Organic Almond Butter: Almond butter, made with 1 ingredient, almonds. If you don’t have almond butter, you can use any nut butter that you enjoy.
- Organic Unsweetened Non-Dairy Milk: You only need a little liquid to blend, since it’s a smoothie bowl. I used organic unsweetened almond milk, but you can use any non-dairy milk that you enjoy.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Ground flax seeds are loaded with nutrients, high in omega-3 fats, rich in dietary fiber, and you can’t even taste them. They are completely optional, so no problem if you don’t have them…yet!

Tips for Making the Perfect Smoothie Bowl
To make the perfect smoothie bowl, make sure to follow these recommendations!
- Be sure to use frozen raspberries and a frozen banana, to achieve a thick consistency.
- The general rule is to start with a little liquid as possible, and add more only as needed. You can always add more, but once you add too much, you can’t go back! Pausing in between blending to scrape down sides helps as well.
- Use a high-speed blender, with a tamper, to ensure that your smoothie bowl achieves a thick and creamy texture.
- Place your serving bowl in the freezer before you begin preparing this recipe and remove it when smoothie is ready. This will ensure that your smoothie bowl stays cold as you enjoy it.
Fresh versus Frozen Ingredients
The key to making smoothie bowls is using frozen ingredients. By adding frozen banana, frozen raspberries, & frozen beets to your smoothie, you will achieve a thicker result, so that you can add toppings, without them sinking. I usually start with a little non-dairy milk and add more, if needed, until I reach the desired thickness.
Smoothie Bowl FAQ’s
Can I make this Smoothie Bowl a Smoothie?
Most definitely! This smoothie bowl can be as thick or thin as you desire. Add extra non-dairy milk, about a cup, to make this smoothie bowl a smoothie. Or in this case, a red velvet cake milkshake!
Can I add Protein Powder?
Yes! To increase the protein content of this smoothie bowl, add a scoop of your favorite protein powder. I recommend using a cacao flavor for this smoothie bowl recipe.
Can I make this Smoothie Bowl in Advance?
Unfortunately, no. I do not recommend making this smoothie bowl in advance. However, you can definitely prep all the ingredients the night before by adding them to a freezer safe bag. That way when you’re ready for it, all you need to do is add the ingredients, along with non-dairy milk to your high-speed blender.
