Berry Beet Smoothie Bowl Ingredients
- Organic Frozen Berries: I used a combination of frozen blackberries and frozen raspberries, but any kind of berries will work.
- Organic Frozen Beets: I used precooked beets that I bought at Whole Foods. You can cook your own beets or even used raw beets. If using raw, you’ll want to peel it first and then cut it into smaller pieces, so that it’s easier to blend.
- Organic Frozen Banana: A frozen banana adds more sweetness and creaminess to this smoothie bowl.
- Organic Greens: I added a handful of kale to get some greens in. If you’re not the biggest fan of kale, you can use spinach, arugula, or completely omit.
- Organic Unsweetened Non-dairy Milk: You only need a little liquid to blend, since it’s a smoothie bowl. I used unsweetened almond milk, but you can use any non-dairy milk that you enjoy.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Flaxseeds are loaded with nutrients, high in omega-3 fats, rich in dietary fiber, and you can’t even taste them. They are completely optional, so no problem if you don’t have them…yet!

Tips for Making the Perfect Smoothie Bowl
To make the perfect smoothie bowl, make sure to follow these recommendations!
- Be sure to use a frozen berries, frozen beets, and a frozen banana, to achieve a thick consistency.
- Start with a little liquid as possible, and add more only as needed. You can always add more, but once you add too much, you can’t go back! Pausing in between blending to scrape down sides helps as well.
- Use a high-speed blender, with a tamper, to ensure that your smoothie bowl achieves a thick and creamy texture.
- Place your serving bowl in the freezer before you begin preparing this recipe and remove it when smoothie is ready. This will ensure that your smoothie bowl stays cold as you enjoy it.

Fresh versus Frozen Ingredients
The key to making smoothie bowls is using frozen ingredients. By adding frozen ingredients to your smoothie, you will achieve a thicker result, so that you can add toppings, without them sinking. I usually start with a little non-dairy milk and add more, if needed, until I reach the desired thickness.
