This Cinnamon Swirl Smoothie is my twist on the Erewhon x Three Trees collaboration. It’s a cinnamon smoothie recipe that’s packed with protein, full of healthy fats, and loaded with organic ingredients. Crafted at the comfort of your own home at a fraction of the price, this Erewhon inspired smoothie is the perfect balance between sweet and creamy.

I’m back with yet another Erewhon inspired smoothie recipe and I cannot get enough of this one in particular. It is loaded with wholesome ingredients and includes a cinnamon infused coconut whipped cream swirl. Which is the best part in my opinion.
Like I mentioned, this Cinnamon Swirl Smoothie is inspired by Erewhon’s collaboration with Three Tress almost a year ago. The ingredient combination looked so delectable, so I just had to create my own version of it.
The main difference between the authentic version and mine is that I did a DIY version of Three Trees Oat Milk, by including a tablespoon of organic seeds to my oat milk. I also added an elixir to the mix instead of dandy blend and I incorporated a scoop of plant protein. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same which means you can get all the benefits of this cinnamon protein smoothie without the Erewhon markup.
Let me give you the deets on Erewhon, if you’re unfamiliar with the LA health store chain. It’s one the most expensive grocery stores in the United States and they’re most known for their $20 smoothies. However, this specific smoothie was about $10 for a 12oz, which is quite reasonable.
Nevertheless, I am going to share with you my version of the cinnamon smoothie recipe, so you can make it at the comfort of your own home! So grab your blender and not your boarding pass for this Erewhon inspired smoothie.
Why You’ll Love This Smoothie
- Organic Shop Worthy: The flavor & texture in this cinnamon smoothie recipe is that found at the famous organic grocery store, but at a fraction of the cost.
- Perfect Protein Smoothie: Whether you’re making it post workout or for breakfast, this Cinnamon Swirl Smoothie will have you fully satisfied, as it is packed with over 25 grams of plant protein.
- Tastes like a Baked Treat: The flavor is that of a classic cinnamon roll, but with a swirl.
Organic Ceylon Cinnamon Health Benefits & Nutrition
One of the main ingredients of this smoothie is cinnamon. But not just any cinnamon, organic ceylon cinnamon. Organic ceylon cinnamon, also known as “true cinnamon,” is the purest type of cinnamon. What you typically find at the local grocery store is of the Cassia variety, which has much less flavor or nutritional benefits. Ceylon cinnamon, has a delicate, sweet flavor, pleasant fragrance than harsh, and is loaded with health benefits. That being said, here are just a few incredible health benefits of organic ceylon cinnamon.
- Boosts Memory & Protects the Brain
- High in Antioxidant Properties
- Contains Anti-Inflammatory Properties
- Supports Healthy Blood Sugar Levels
- Helps Fight Bacteria & Fungal Infections

Ingredients
- Organic Unsweetened Oat Milk: Erewhon used Three Trees oat milk for this Cinnamon Swirl Smoothie, so you can either use that or include MALK Organics oat milk! Both are trusted brands!
- Organic Raw Almond Butter: Almond butter adds plant-based healthy fats & protein. Don’t skip this!
- Organic Seeds: In addition to the almond butter, we’ll be adding a tablespoon of organic sunflower seeds, organic pumpkin seeds, & organic ground flax seeds, to add even more protein & healthy fats to this smoothie!
- Organic Maple Syrup: Just a splash, to provide this cinnamon smoothie with a hint of sweetness.
- Organic Plant Protein: Even though Erewhon’s recipe didn’t have protein, I always add some into my smoothie recipes. The reason being, is that adding a scoop of protein powder helps to keep you full and satisfied longer. For this Cinnamon Swirl Smoothie recipe, I love Four Sigmatic’s Unflavored Plant Protein. It’s made with real organic ingredients with no grains, gums or fillers. Oh & it’s super delicious.
- Four Sigmatic’s Chaga Elixir: In Erewhon’s smoothie, they used Dandy Blend. I didn’t have that, so I used the next best thing, Four Sigmatic’s Chaga Elixir packet. It provides a rich, earthy taste and it’s uncaffeinated – which is similar to Dandy Blend! Oh & the best part is that this organic chaga elixir has several antioxidants & immune supporting properties too. It’s the perfect addition for this cinnamon smoothie recipe.
- Organic Ceylon Cinnamon: It wouldn’t be a cinnamon protein smoothie without it!
- Sea Salt: Rich in a ton of minerals and beautifully enhances the flavor.
- Organic Frozen Banana: It’s best to use a frozen banana to create that super thick & creamy texture.
- Homemade Organic Coconut Whipped Cream: To swirl around the glass. Optional, but recommended for this Erewhon inspired smoothie!
How To Make
- Blend the Liquids & Powders. First, add the non-dairy milk, nut butter, seeds, maple syrup, plant protein, chaga elixir, and spices, to a high-speed blender. Blend these ingredients until smooth.
- Blend the Frozen Ingredients. Next, add in the frozen banana. Blend until smooth and creamy. If needed, you can pause the blender, remove the lid, and scrape down the sides so that everything is fully incorporated. You may need to add a little more non-dairy milk depending on how thick/thin you like your smoothies
- Coconut Cinnamon Swirl Glass. Add a couple of tablespoons of coconut whipped cream to the bottom of your serving glass, along with a dash or two of ceylon cinnamon. Give a good mix and swirl around the sides.
- Serve. Pour into a chilled glass and enjoy immediately.
Optional Add-Ins
Feel free to truly make this smoothie your own! Here are a few suggestions to amp-up this Cinnamon Swirl Smoothie recipe:
- Organic Chia Seeds: Add a tablespoon of organic chia seeds for some omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, selenium, phosphorus, calcium, etc. + it helps thicken this cinnamon smoothie recipe.
- Organic Hemp Seeds: Add a tablespoon of organic hemp seeds to boost the healthy fats, protein, omegas & minerals in this smoothie.
- Organic Coconut Yogurt: Add some creaminess to this smoothie with a scoop of coconut yogurt. You may have to reduce the liquid to ½ cup in this smoothie when adding yogurt.
- Organic Greens: You can get your greens in too in this cinnamon smoothie. They blend easily & you can’t taste them. Plus, greens are packed with so many minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. Spinach, kale, swiss chard, mustard greens, collard greens, or mixed greens all work. WARNING: it will change the color of the smoothie.
Tips for Making the Perfect Smoothie
Interested in how to make the absolute perfect Erewhon inspired smoothie? As someone who makes smoothies daily, here are my TOP tips for creating the perfect smoothies:
- Use Frozen Fruit: Adding a frozen to this smoothie is the only way to go! The ice from the frozen fruits adds thickness to the smoothie.
- Adjust Liquid Amount: If you find that your smoothie is too thick to blend, not to worry! Just add a bit more milk, blend, open the cover, scrape down the sides if needed, and blend again. And when possible, always use a larger high-speed blender instead, as it will blend the ingredients much better.
- How To Make: Add your liquid first & blend your powders first, before adding your frozen ingredients. This is my personal favorite way of preparing my smoothies. By blending the liquid & powders first, it ensures that your powders blend completely.
- Smoothie Blending Tip: Start your blender on low to medium speed. If you blend the smoothie too quickly from the beginning, it’s really hard for the blender to properly blend the frozen ingredients – so start lower and then gradually increase the speed.
- Chill Your Glass: There’s nothing better than a cold smoothie, in this case, a cinnamon milkshake. Put your serving glass in the fridge or freezer while you’re making your smoothie to ensure a chilled smoothie with every sip.
Smoothie FAQ’s
Do I have to use a frozen banana?
The frozen banana in this recipe gives the cinnamon protein smoothie a thick & creamy texture. If using a fresh banana, be to add a handful of ice cubes to achieve a cold, thick smoothie. However, if you’re looking to remove the banana altogether, because you’re allergic or simply don’t like them, you can replace it with ½ cup of frozen zucchini, frozen cauliflower, or frozen avocado chunks. If you elect to make this a banana free smoothie, I recommend keeping the organic maple syrup to maintain its sweetness.
Is it healthy to have a smoothie?
Duh! I wouldn’t post something that was unhealthy. Having a smoothie full of protein, healthy fats, & superfoods for a post workout breakfast is great because you’ll be getting essential vitamins, nutrients, & protein, first thing. However, some smoothies on the market or on the web can be loaded with tons of fruit, added sugar, & nonsense, making them a less healthy option.
What is the best protein powder to use?
For this particular Erewhon inspired smoothie, I love using Four Sigmatic’s Unflavored Plant Protein. It’s made with real organic ingredients with no grains, gums, or fillers. If you don’t have Four Sigmatic’s Unflavored Plant Protein on hand, you can use your favorite unflavored protein powder. When selecting a plant protein, it’s crucial to look at the protein content and most importantly, the ingredients.
How can I add protein without using protein powder?
If you don’t have unflavored protein powder on hand, no worries! To increase the protein content in this cinnamon smoothie recipe, you can add a tablespoon of organic chia seeds, organic hemp seeds, and/or organic ground flax seeds, without changing the taste too much.
Can I make this protein smoothie recipe in advance?
Yes! Feel free to make the smoothie as is or double it for later. Check out this “How to Prepare Smoothies in Advance” post to achieve the best results.
