This Green Goddess Smoothie is an over-the-top recipe that is packed with plant protein, healthy fats, & energizing superfoods. At first sip, this Erewhon-inspired smoothie will be your new go-to post workout breakfast!

I’m sure that you’ve seen that there are numerous green protein blends on the web, but none compare to this Green Goddess Smoothie recipe.
While this blend is unique, I can’t take full credit for it. It’s an Erewhon-inspired smoothie recipe, but without the markup. Lucky for you & me, the ingredients are very similar, which means you can get all the benefits of this post workout smoothie without the heavy Erewhon price tag of $19. You’re welcome!
If you’re unfamiliar with Erewhon, let me give you the deets. The LA health store is one of the most expensive grocery stores in the United States. The shelves are all color coordination, packed with the latest healthy foods, supplements, & more. It’s pretty much the créme de la créme of grocery stores.
So whether you’re a green smoothie lover or not, this Green Goddess Smoothie will make you take a second thought or in this case a second sip!

- Loaded with Superfoods: For added nutrition, without compromising the taste!
- Perfect Post Workout Smoothie: With the combination of plant protein from the seeds + protein powder, the energy boosting superfoods, & the electrolytes from the coconut water, this healthy smoothie will properly nourish your body.
- Organic Shop Worthy: The end result of this Erewhon-inspired smoothie is that found at the famous organic grocery store, but at a fraction of the cost.

Ingredients
- Organic Coconut Water: To get things blended we’ll be using coconut water. Not only is coconut water super delicious, but is also full of electrolytes – which is great post workout. My favorite brand is Harmless Harvest. It’s just one ingredient, organic coconut water. Oh & it’s pink! So cute.
- Organic Raw Almonds: For added plant-based healthy fats & protein. It’s best to use raw & unsalted almonds for this green smoothie. If you don’t have raw almonds, you can substitute with 2 tbsp of organic raw almond butter.
- Organic Hemp Seeds: Organic hemp seeds amplifies the healthy fats, protein, omegas, & minerals, to this blend.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Organic ground flax seeds add a great little boost of fiber & minerals.
- Organic Superfoods: More specifically, organic gelatinized maca powder, organic mesquite, organic lucuma powder, & organic tocotrienols. If you only have a few of these incredible superfoods on hand, use it, but if you don’t have any of these, this smoothie will still be incredible without them. Super confused on superfoods? - Organic Vanilla Plant Protein: Adding a scoop of protein powder helps to keep you full & satisfied longer. When selecting a protein powder brand, it’s crucial to look at the protein content & most importantly, the ingredients. Check out this Cleanest Plant-Based & Vegan Protein Powders post to learn what to look for, the best brands, as well the recommended daily protein intake.
- Organic Ceylon Cinnamon: A healthy pinch takes this green smoothie to the next level.
- Sea Salt: Rich in a ton of minerals & beautifully enhances the flavor.
- Organic Greens: They blend easily & you can’t taste them that much. Plus, greens are packed with so many minerals, vitamins, & antioxidants. I prefer spinach, but kale, swiss chard, mustard greens, collard greens, or mixed greens all work!
- Organic Avocado: Not included in Erewhon’s version, but it enhances the creaminess. Fresh or frozen both work!
- Organic Frozen Banana: Again, technically not an Erewhon smoothie add-in, but I like to include one to level-up the consistency.
How To Make
- Blend the Liquids & Powders. First, add the coconut water, almonds, plant protein, seeds, superfoods, spices, & greens, to a high-speed blender. Blend these ingredients until smooth.
- Blend the Frozen Ingredients. Next, add in the avocado & frozen banana. Blend until smooth & creamy. If needed, you can pause the blender, remove the lid, & scrape down the sides so that everything is fully incorporated. You may need to add a little more liquid depending on how thick/thin you like your smoothies.
- Serve. Pour into a chilled glass & enjoy!

Optional Smoothie Add-Ins
Feel free to truly make this Erewhon-inspired smoothie your own! Here are a few suggestions to amp-up this Green Goddess Smoothie recipe:
- Organic Chia Seeds: Add in a tablespoon of organic chia seeds for a boost of healthy fats & fiber.
- Organic Coconut Yogurt: Enhance the creaminess with a scoop of organic plain coconut yogurt.
- Organic Medjool Date: If you’re wanting to sweeten your green smoothie even more, add one organic pitted medjool date. My favorite brand is Joolies!
Tips for Making the Perfect Erewhon Inspired Smoothie
Interested in how to make the absolute perfect Green Goddess Smoothie? As someone who makes smoothies daily, here are my TOP tips :
- Use Frozen Fruit: Adding a frozen to this smoothie is the only way to go! The ice from the frozen fruits adds thickness to the smoothie.
- Adjust Liquid Amount: If you find that your smoothie is too thick to blend, not to worry! Just add a bit more liquid, blend, open the cover, scrape down the sides if needed, & blend again. When possible, always use a larger high-speed blender instead, as it will blend the ingredients much better.
- How To Make: Add your liquid first & blend your powders first, before adding your frozen ingredients. This is my personal favorite way of preparing my smoothies. By blending the liquid & powders first, it ensures that your powders blend completely.
- Smoothie Blending Tip: Start your blender on low to medium speed. If you blend the smoothie too quickly from the beginning, it’s really hard for the blender to properly blend the frozen ingredients – so start lower & then gradually increase the speed.
- Chill Your Glass: There’s nothing better than a cold smoothie or in this case, a green goddess milkshake! Put your serving glass in the fridge or freezer while you’re making your blend to ensure a chilled smoothie at every sip.
Smoothie FAQ’s
Do I have to use a frozen banana?
The frozen banana provides a thick & creamy consistency. If using a fresh banana, be sure to add a handful of ice cubes to achieve a cold smoothie. If you elect to make this a banana-free smoothie, I recommend adding 1 organic pitted medjool date or 2 teaspoons of manuka honey, to maintain its sweetness.
Is it healthy to have a smoothie?
Duh! I wouldn’t post something that was unhealthy. Having a smoothie full of protein, healthy fats, & superfoods, for a post workout breakfast is great, because you’ll be getting essential vitamins, nutrients, & protein, first thing. However, some smoothies on the market or on the web can be loaded with tons of fruit, added sugar, & nonsense, making them a less healthy option.
What is the best protein powder to use?
I used an organic vanilla plant protein powder for this green superfood smoothie. When selecting a protein powder brand, it’s crucial to look at the protein content & most importantly, the ingredients. Check out this Cleanest Plant-Based & Vegan Protein Powders post to learn what to look for, the best brands, as well the recommended daily protein intake.
How can I add protein without using protein powder?
If you don’t have vanilla protein powder on hand, no worries! To increase the protein content, you can add an extra tablespoon of organic hemp seeds, without changing the taste too much.
Do I have to add superfoods?
Even though this is a superfood smoothie recipe, you are not required to add them. However, I do recommend looking into them, as there are incredible benefits of consuming them on a regular basis. And if you only have a couple of superfood powders, that’s great! Use what you’ve got for this smoothie recipe. For additional information, be sure to check out this s Superfoods 101 post!
Can I make this smoothie recipe in advance?
