Chocolate Orange Smoothie Bowl Ingredients
This recipe only requires 5 ingredients to make this extravagant smoothie bowl.
- Organic Frozen Orange: It wouldn’t be the same without an orange to this breakfast combination. I used a frozen naval orange, but you can use a frozen mandarin orange.
- Organic Frozen Banana: A frozen banana adds more sweetness and creaminess to this smoothie bowl.
- Organic Cacao Powder: To make the smoothie chocolatey! To be clear, cacao powder is different from regular dutch cocoa powder. Cacao powder is pure, raw cacao versus processed. Plus, cacao is rich in magnesium.
- Organic Peanut Butter: Adding peanut butter to this combination, truly takes this smoothie bowl to the next level. I recommend using creamy peanut butter, made with 1 ingredient, peanuts!
- Organic Unsweetened Non-dairy Milk: You only need a little liquid to blend, since it’s a smoothie bowl. I used unsweetened almond milk, but you can use any non-dairy milk that you enjoy.
How to make this Chocolate Orange Smoothie Bowl
All it takes is 3 simple steps, 4 minutes, and 5 ingredients to make this smoothie bowl!
- Add: To begin, add the non-dairy milk, cacao powder, creamy peanut butter, frozen orange, and the frozen banana, to a high-speed blender.
- Blend: Starting on a low speed, use a tamper to help ingredients blend. Pausing & scraping down sides of the blender as needed. If necessary, add additional non-dairy milk in 1/4 cup increments, until a thick, smooth texture is achieved.
- Serve: Then, transfer your chocolate smoothie to a chilled bowl. Garnish with cacao nibs, chocolate covered chia seeds, fresh orange slices, chocolate peanut butter granola, and coconut flakes, if desired. Enjoy!

Smoothie Bowl Toppings
Don’t forget this important step! Toppings are the best part of a smoothie bowl. I decorated my smoothie with cacao nibs, chocolate covered chia seeds, fresh orange slices, chocolate peanut butter granola, and coconut flakes, for a crunchy texture and fresh burst of flavor. Of course, you can opt for some healthier toppings, so I will provide you with other smoothie bowl topping suggestions.

Tips for Making the Perfect Smoothie Bowl
To make the perfect smoothie bowl, make sure to follow these recommendations!
- Be sure to use a frozen orange and a frozen banana, to achieve a thick consistency.
- Start with a little liquid as possible, and add more only as needed. You can always add more, but once you add too much, you can’t go back! Pausing in between blending to scrape down sides helps as well.
- You can use your favorite nut or seed butter.
- Use a high-speed blender, with a tamper, to ensure that your smoothie bowl achieves a thick and creamy texture.
- Place your serving bowl in the freezer before you begin preparing this recipe and remove it when smoothie is ready. This will ensure that your smoothie bowl stays cold as you enjoy it.
Fresh versus Frozen Ingredients
The key to making smoothie bowls is using frozen ingredients. By adding frozen banana & frozen orange to your smoothie, you will achieve a thicker result, so that you can add toppings, without them sinking. I usually start with a little non-dairy milk and add more, if needed, until I reach the desired thickness.
