What if I told you that you could eat pumpkin pie for breakfast?
Yes, you could actually eat a slice of pumpkin pie for breakfast, but in this pie recipe I’m talking more specifically about a Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Bowl. As in, smoothie that you can eat with a spoon!
Why You’ll Love This Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Bowl
- Packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
- Perfect breakfast or dessert that is sweet, energizing, and healthy.
- Tastes like a slice of pumpkin pie, but in a smoothie bowl form.
- Plus, you can customize this smoothie bowl recipe, by adding your favorite toppings.
Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Bowl Ingredients
This pumpkin smoothie is creamy, has the perfect consistency, is wonderfully spiced so it actually tastes like you’re enjoying a slice of pumpkin pie. Plus, it’s healthy! Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
- Organic Frozen Banana: A frozen banana adds more sweetness and creaminess to this smoothie bowl!
- Organic Cauliflower: I know it sounds crazy, but adding frozen cauliflower is where the thick texture comes from. Don’t worry, you can’t taste it. I recommend using store bought frozen cauliflower, or even frozen cauliflower rice, because it blends up nicely.
- Organic Medjool Dates: Adding a couple of dates makes this smoothie bowl extra creamy and sweet. Also, be sure to make sure that your dates are pitted.
- Organic Pumpkin Puree: Please don’t use pumpkin pie mix! Opt for real pumpkin here. I buy canned pumpkin, because of the convenience, but you can also make your own.
- Organic Pumpkin Pie Spice: This is a must for the pumpkin pie flavor! You can make your own pumpkin pie spice mixture or buy a pre-made blend at the grocery store.
- Organic Unsweetened Non-dairy Milk: You only need a little liquid to blend, since it’s a smoothie bowl. I used unsweetened almond milk, but you can use any non-dairy milk that you enjoy.
- Nut Butter: For this recipe I used organic almond butter, but pecan butter would be delicious too. Adding nut butter to this recipe creates the nice, cozy flavors often found in pumpkin pie.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Flaxseeds are loaded with nutrients, high in omega-3 fats, rich in dietary fiber, and you can’t even taste them. They are completely optional, so no problem if you don’t have them…yet!
How to make this Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Bowl
All it takes is 3 simple steps to achieve your pumpkin pie!
- Add: To begin, add the non-dairy milk, ground flax seeds, pumpkin pie spice, nut butter, pumpkin puree, frozen banana, Medjool dates, and frozen cauliflower rice, in a high-speed blender.
- Blend: Starting on a low speed, use a tamper to help ingredients blend. Pausing & scraping down sides of the blender as needed. If necessary, add additional non-dairy milk in 1/4 cup increments, until a thick, smooth texture is achieved.
- Serve: Then, transfer your pumpkin pie smoothie to a chilled bowl. Garnish with vegan granola, chopped pecans, pumpkin seeds, shredded coconut, chia seeds, a drizzle of almond butter, and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice, if desired. Enjoy!

Smoothie Bowl Toppings
Smoothie bowl toppings are the best part. For this Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Bowl, I topped mine with some homemade vegan granola, chopped pecans, pumpkin seeds, shredded coconut, chia seeds, a drizzle of almond butter, and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice. Nevertheless, you can top your smoothie bowl with whatever you desire. Here are some more topping ideas that pair great with this smoothie bowl:
- Fresh Organic Berries: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, etc.
- Sliced Organic Banana
- Chopped Organic Medjool Dates
- Toasted Organic Nuts/Seeds: almonds, peanuts, hazelnuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, pecans, walnuts, etc.

- Organic Coconut Yogurt

Tips for Making the Perfect Smoothie Bowl
To make the perfect smoothie bowl, make sure to follow these recommendations!
- Be sure to use a frozen banana and frozen cauliflower rice, to achieve a thick consistency.
- Start with a little liquid as possible, and add more only as needed. You can always add more, but once you add too much, you can’t go back! Pausing in between blending to scrape down sides helps as well.
- You can use your favorite nut or seed butter.
- Please be sure to not to use pumpkin pie mix and to use canned pumpkin.
- Use a high-speed blender, with a tamper, to ensure that your smoothie bowl achieves a thick and creamy texture.
- Place your serving bowl in the freezer before you begin preparing this recipe and remove it when smoothie is ready. This will ensure that your smoothie bowl stays cold as you enjoy it.
Fresh versus Frozen Ingredients
The key to making smoothie bowls is using frozen ingredients. By adding frozen banana & frozen cauliflower to your smoothie, you will achieve a thicker result, so that you can add toppings, without them sinking. I usually start with a little non-dairy milk and add more, if needed, until I reach the desired thickness.
Smoothie Bowl FAQ’s
Can I make this Smoothie Bowl a Smoothie?
Most definitely! This smoothie bowl can be as thick or thin as you desire. Add extra non-dairy milk, about a cup, to make this smoothie bowl a smoothie.
Can I add Protein Powder?
Yes! To increase the protein content of this smoothie bowl, add a scoop of your favorite protein powder. I recommend using an organic vanilla protein powder for this smoothie bowl recipe.
Can I make this Smoothie Bowl in Advance?
Unfortunately, no. I do not recommend making this smoothie bowl in advance. However, you can definitely prep all the ingredients the night before by adding them to a freezer safe bag. That way when you’re ready for it, all you need to do is add the ingredients, along with non-dairy milk to your high-speed blender.
