- Fun & Festive: Topped with “graveyard dirt” chocolate clusters & cute coconut butter ghosts for that spooky Halloween flair.
Spooky Protein Pudding vs. Traditional Halloween Desserts
Unlike typical Halloween treats that are often made with refined sugars, artificial additives, & unhealthy add-ins, this Spooky Chocolate Avocado Protein Pudding is created with wholesome, nutrient-dense vegan ingredients.
The creamy avocado base provides healthy fats & fiber, while antioxidant-rich cacao delivers rich chocolate flavor along with essential minerals. Plant-based protein powder boosts the protein content, helping to keep you full & energized for longer. Together, these ingredients create a balanced dessert that satisfies your sweet tooth & nourishes your body with lasting nutrition.
Instead of sugary toppings like Oreos, this pudding is garnished with crushed chocolate clusters that mimic “graveyard dirt,” & finished with adorable coconut butter ghosts—which is a fun, festive, & healthier alternative to traditional Halloween sweets.
Creating healthier alternatives like this festive treat lets you enjoy all the seasonal vibes without the unnecessary additives!

Ingredients
- Organic Unsweetened Non-Dairy Milk: Any non-dairy milk works in this recipe; just be sure to use homemade or trusted brands—I like MALK Organics, Three Trees, or Native Forest.
- Organic Vanilla Plant Protein: Adding a scoop of protein powder helps to keep you full & satisfied longer. When selecting a protein powder brand, it’s crucial to look at the protein content and, most importantly, the ingredients. Check out this Cleanest Plant-Based & Vegan Protein Powders post to learn what to look for, the best brands, & recommended daily protein intake.
- Organic Cacao Powder: This is the perfect way to make the pudding decadent. To be clear, cacao powder is different from regular Dutch cocoa powder. Check out this Cacao Powder 101 post to learn more!
- Organic Medjool Date: Including one date in this blend adds the perfect amount of natural sweetness. I recommend buying pitted dates so you don’t have to remove the pits yourself. My go-to brand is Joolies—they’re sweet, soft, & always superb!
- Sea Salt: Just a pinch brings out all the flavors & adds trace minerals.
- Organic Avocado: Fresh or frozen, both work!
- Organic Chocolate Clusters: For the “dirt” topping, we’ll chop up these simple two-ingredient chocolate clusters. They add a satisfying crunch & rich chocolate flavor that perfectly complements the creamy pudding, giving it a fun, textured finish without any artificial additives.
- Organic Raw Coconut Butter: For a fun, whimsical finishing touch, I like to create little ghosts using organic raw coconut butter. Its creamy texture & gentle sweetness balance the rich chocolate perfectly!
How to Make
Complete recipe instructions—including how to make the spooky “dirt” & adorable ghosts—are in the recipe card at the end of the post!
- Blend the Liquids & Powders. To a high-speed blender, add the non-dairy milk, plant protein, cacao, & sea salt. Blend these ingredients until smooth.
- Blend the Medjool Date. Add the soft Medjool date & blend until smooth.
- Blend the Frozen Ingredients. Next, add in the frozen avocado. Blend until smooth & creamy. If needed, you can pause the blender, remove the lid, & scrape down the sides so that everything is fully incorporated. You may need to add a little more liquid depending on how thick/thin you like your pudding.
- Transfer. Pour the pudding into a chilled glass.
- Serve. Spoon the crushed chocolate clusters (dirt) over the top of the pudding & top with the coconut butter ghost. Enjoy!

Optional Protein Pudding Add-Ins
Feel free to customize this healthy Halloween dessert to your liking! Here are some tasty ways to take your Spooky Chocolate Avocado Protein Pudding to the next level:
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Organic ground flax seeds add a great little boost of fiber & minerals to this pudding.
- Organic Hemp Seeds: Add in a tablespoon of organic hemp seeds for a boost of healthy fats, protein, omegas, & minerals.
- Organic Coconut Yogurt: Enhance the creaminess of this pudding with a scoop of organic plain coconut yogurt.
Healthy Halloween Dessert Tips
Want to know how to blend up the absolute perfect Spooky Chocolate Avocado Protein Pudding? Here are my top tips to get it just right:
- Adjust Liquid Amount: If your pudding feels too thick to blend, no worries! Simply add a little more liquid, blend, then pause to scrape down the sides if needed, & blend again. Using a larger high-speed blender whenever possible will also help get a smoother mix.
- Soak the Medjool Date: If your date isn’t soft, I suggest soaking it in very warm water for 5 minutes so that it can blend nicely.
- How to Make: Start by adding your liquids first, then blend your powders before adding the frozen ingredients. This helps ensure the powders fully dissolve & blend smoothly.
- Blending Tip: Begin blending on low to medium speed. Starting too fast can make it tough for your blender to handle the frozen ingredients properly. Gradually increase the speed as it blends for the best texture.
- Prepare the Dirt & Ghosts First: I highly recommend making your toppings before blending the pudding. That way, everything is ready to go when your pudding is fresh & perfectly chilled.
Pudding FAQs
Is it healthy to have pudding?
It really depends, but I wouldn’t share anything that isn’t good for you. This Spooky Chocolate Avocado Pudding is packed with protein, healthy fats, & superfoods, making it a nourishing choice. On the other hand, most Halloween desserts you find in stores or online are loaded with added sugars & artificial ingredients, making them a less healthy option.
What is the best protein powder to use?
I used an organic vanilla plant protein powder for this vegan Halloween dessert—it adds creaminess, a hit of vanilla, & a boost of protein. When selecting a protein powder brand, it’s crucial to look at the protein content and, most importantly, the ingredients. If you’re not sure where to start, check out this Cleanest Plant-Based & Vegan Protein Powders post to learn what to look for, the best brands, & how to calculate your daily protein intake based on your lifestyle & goals.
How can I add protein without using protein powder?
Don’t have protein powder on hand? No worries! You can easily boost the protein content by adding in a tablespoon of organic hemp seeds or one to two tablespoons of raw almond butter. Both add a nice protein punch without altering the flavor much—keeping your pudding deliciously creamy & nutritious.
Can I double this recipe?
Absolutely! Go ahead & double it to share with friends or family—they’re going to love this healthy Halloween dessert just as much as you do!

Ingredients
Always opt for organic ingredients.
CHOCOLATE CLUSTERS (DIRT)
- 1 tbsp cacao chips (I love Pascha’s 100% cacao organic vegan unsweetened dark chocolate chips)
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1 tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes/shredded
GHOSTS
- 1 tbsp coconut butter
- Cacao chips, melted
PUDDING
- ¾ cup unsweetened non-dairy milk
- 1 scoop vanilla plant protein
- 5 tsp cacao powder
- 1–2 pitted Medjool dates, preference
- Sea salt, a pinch
- ½ avocado, fresh or frozen
Instructions
CHOCOLATE CLUSTERS (DIRT)
- Melt the cacao chips & coconut oil, then stir in the coconut flakes until fully coated. Scoop the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet & chill in the freezer for 15 minutes. Once solid, roughly chop for the “dirt” topping.
GHOSTS
- Melt the coconut butter & pour a small amount onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Swipe downward with a spoon to create a ghost-like shape. Next take a skewer/toothpick & dip it in the center of the melted coconut butter. Chill in the freezer for 15 minutes. Once hardened, dip a toothpick or skewer into the leftover melted cacao (from the clusters) & draw two eyes & an oval mouth on each ghost.
PUDDING
PRESENTATION
- Serve. Spoon the crushed chocolate clusters (dirt) over the top of the pudding & top with the coconut butter ghost. Enjoy!
