It’s fall and you’re about to fall in love with this pumpkin smoothie.
This smoothie is inspired by the famous pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks, but is made into a smoothie form with wholesome ingredients. Blended with cold brew, full of pumpkin flavor, packed with protein, and is loaded with superfoods to provide powerful antioxidants to elevate your health. If you’re wanting to get fancy, go ahead and grab the coconut whipped cream to top of your pumpkin smoothie…homemade of course!
So go ahead and grab your blender, not your car keys for this pumpkin spice latte smoothie.
May I also mention the best part, being that whether it’s pumpkin season or not, you can enjoy this smoothie all year long, unlike the pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks.
Why You’ll Love This Smoothie
- Caffeinated with Organic Cold Brew: To give you that boost to get through your busy fall day!
- Perfect Protein Smoothie: Whether you’re making it post workout or breakfast, this pumpkin smoothie will have you fully satisfied.
- Coffee Shop Worthy: The flavor & texture in this smoothie is that found at an overpriced coffee shop, but at a fraction of the cost, as well as way healthier.
- Loaded with Nutrition: This pumpkin latte smoothie is packed with plant protein, is loaded with superfoods, & full of antioxidants, to improve your overall health.
Starbucks vs. Pumpkin Protein Smoothie
This pumpkin latte smoothie recipe is a healthy twist on the famous pumpkin spice latte. You know the one…it only comes around for a brief time per year and I feel like everyone and their mothers run to get it.
Anyways, did you know that there used to be no pumpkin in the mega coffee shop’s famous pumpkin spice latte? Cold hard facts. Well not so cold, because it’s a latte we’re talking about. But in all seriousness, if they used to get away with that, what else are they getting away with now? I’ll tell you…potassium sorbate, carrageenan, and over 50 grams of sugar are in the latest pumpkin spice latte.
Provide yourself peace of mind and swap your $7 latte with this copycat pumpkin latte smoothie. It’s at a fraction of the cost and loaded with nutrition, not chemicals.
So step aside Starbucks, because this pumpkin spice latte smoothie is where it’s at.

Ingredients
- Organic Coffee or Organic Cold Brew: To get that signature coffee flavor, you’ll want to use freshly brewed and COOLED coffee. For the smoothie sake, please cool your coffee in this smoothie, as it will cause the ingredients to melt! YICKS! I used Chameleon Cold Brew Black Coffee Concentrate for this particular cold brew smoothie. However, you can use leftover cold coffee or cold brew.
- Organic Unsweetened Non-Dairy Milk: Any non-dairy milk works in this recipe, but I love unsweetened almond milk! Just be sure to use trusted brands – I like MALK Organics or Three Trees.
- Organic Pumpkin Puree: Probably the most crucial ingredient for this pumpkin smoothie. Make sure it’s pumpkin puree & NOT pumpkin pie filling (which is loaded with lots of sugar & other unhealthy ingredients you can’t pronounce). Organic pumpkin puree is simply pureed pumpkin!
- Organic Vanilla Plant Protein: Adding a scoop of protein powder helps to keep you full and satisfied longer. I love Four Sigmatic’s Sweet Vanilla Plant Protein for this recipe. It’s made with real organic vanilla with no grains, gums or fillers. Oh & it’s super delicious. Nevertheless, if you have yet to try Four Sigmatic’s Sweet Vanilla Plant Protein, add your favorite vanilla plant protein.
- Organic Gelatinized Maca Powder: Organic maca powder adds a subtle caramel like flavor to this pumpkin smoothie smoothie. Plus, it’s packed with antioxidants & has been shown to have helpful benefits for women’s hormones.
- Organic Lucuma Powder: Organic lucuma is sweet & has a maple-like flavor, but has a low sugar content. It contains trace minerals and beta-carotene, to support beauty, skin, and energy.
- Organic Fall Spices: A combination of organic pumpkin spice and organic ceylon cinnamon is essential for this pumpkin pie smoothie!
- Sea Salt: A healthy pinch of sea salt is rich in a ton of minerals and beautifully enhances the flavor of this pumpkin protein smoothie.
- Organic Frozen Banana: It only takes one fruit to sweeten up this pumpkin cold brew smoothie. It’s best to use frozen bananas to create that super thick & creamy texture.
How To Make
- Blend Liquids & Powders: First, add the cold brew, non-dairy milk, pumpkin puree, protein powder, superfoods, and spices, to a high-speed blender. Blend these ingredients until smooth.
- Blend Frozen Banana: Next, add in the frozen banana. Blend until smooth and creamy. If needed, you can pause the blender, remove the lid, and scrape down the sides so that everything is fully incorporated. You may need to add a little more non-dairy milk depending on how thick/thin you like your smoothies
- Serve: Pour into a chilled glass, dollop on some coconut whipped cream, and enjoy immediately.
Smoothie Add-Ins
Feel free to truly make this smoothie your own! Here are a few suggestions to amp-up this pumpkin cold brew smoothie recipe:
- Organic Chia Seeds: Add a scoop of organic chia seeds for some omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, selenium, phosphorus, calcium, etc. + it helps thicken this protein smoothie.
- Organic Hemp Seeds: Organic hemp seeds adds a boost of healthy fats, protein, omegas & minerals.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Organic ground flax seeds adds a great little boost of fiber & minerals to this pumpkin cold brew smoothie.
- Organic Coconut Yogurt: Add some creaminess to this smoothie with a scoop of coconut yogurt. You may have to eliminate the organic unsweetened non dairy milk when adding yogurt.
- Organic Greens: You can get your greens in too in this protein smoothie. They blend easily & you can’t taste them. Plus, greens are packed with so many minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. Spinach, kale, swiss chard, mustard greens, collard greens, or mixed greens all work. WARNING: it will change the color of the smoothie!
Tips for Making this Smoothie
Interested in how to make the absolute perfect cold brew smoothie? As someone who makes smoothies daily, here are my TOP tips for creating this perfect smoothie:
- Use Frozen Fruit: Adding a frozen to this smoothie is the only way to go! The ice from the frozen fruits adds thickness to the smoothie.
- Adjust Liquid Amount: If you find that your smoothie is too thick to blend, not to worry! Just add a bit more milk, blend, open the cover, scrape down the sides if needed, and blend again. And when possible, always use a larger high-speed blender instead, as it will blend the ingredients much better.
- How To Make: Add your liquid first & blend your powders first, before adding your frozen ingredients. This is my personal favorite way of preparing my smoothies. By blending the liquid & powders first, it ensures that your powders blend completely.
- Smoothie Blending Tip: Start your blender on low to medium speed. If you blend the smoothie too quickly from the beginning, it’s really hard for the blender to properly blend the frozen ingredients – so start lower and then gradually increase the speed.
- Chill Your Glass: There’s nothing better than a cold smoothie, in this case, a pumpkin spice latte milkshake. Put your serving glass in the fridge or freezer while you’re making your smoothie to ensure a chilled smoothie with every sip!
Smoothie FAQ’s
Do I have to use a frozen banana?
The frozen banana in this recipe gives the pumpkin cold brew smoothie a thick & creamy texture. If using a fresh banana, be sure to add a handful of ice cubes to achieve a cold, thick smoothie.
Is it healthy to have a smoothie?
Duh! I wouldn’t post something that was unhealthy. Having a smoothie full of protein, healthy fats, & superfoods for a post workout breakfast is great because you’ll be getting essential vitamins, nutrients, & protein, first thing. However, some smoothies on the market or on the web can be loaded with tons of fruit, added sugar, & nonsense, making them a less healthy option.
What is the best protein powder to use?
For this particular protein smoothie, I love using Four Sigmatic’s Sweet Vanilla Plant Protein. It’s made with real organic ingredients with no grains, gums, or fillers. If you don’t have Four Sigmatic’s Sweet Vanilla Plant Protein on hand, you can use your favorite vanilla protein powder.
How can I add protein without using protein powder?
If you don’t have protein powder on hand, no worries! To increase the protein content, you can add a tablespoon of organic hemp seeds, organic ground flax seeds, and/or organic chia seeds, without changing the taste too much.
Do I have to add superfoods?
Even though this is a smoothie recipe includes a couple of superfoods, you are not required to add them. However, I do recommend looking into them, as there are incredible benefits of consuming them on a regular basis. And if you only have one of the superfood powders, that’s great! Use what you’ve got for this smoothie recipe. For additional superfood information, be sure to check out this superfood post!
Can I make this protein smoothie in advance?
Yes! Feel free to make the smoothie as is or double it for later. Check out this “How to Prepare Smoothies in Advance” post to achieve the best results.
