This Peanut Butter Mushroom Mocha Smoothie is a copycat version of the SunLife Organics Shroom Shake recipe. It’s a delicious combination of healthy fats, functional mushrooms, cacao plant protein, and coffee. Crafted at the comfort of your own home, at a fraction of the price, this mocha protein smoothie recipe will energize your day!

Today I am bringing to you an incredible mocha protein smoothie recipe. Although I cannot take full credit for this one, as I was inspired by the SunLife Organics Shroom Shake. I decided to make my own version of it and the ingredients are pretty much the same, which means you can get all the benefits without the organic shops markup.
The name “Shroom Shake” is because of the mu(shrooms) in it. Not actual mushrooms and not magical mushrooms. The mushrooms that I am talking about are functional mushrooms. Functional mushrooms provide several natural health benefits and there is nothing funky about them. You can’t truly taste them in the smoothie, but you receive all of the benefits.
For this mocha protein smoothie, I specifically used Four Sigmatic’s coffee, mushroom blend, as well as their cacao plant protein. This is not a sponsored post by Four Sigmatic, I’m just sharing what I use. Four Sigmatic is all about transparency – every product that they create is safe and effective, as well as backed by research.
This mocha protein smoothie be your new favorite as it will perk you up, without the coffee crash!

The star of this Peanut Butter Mushroom Mocha Smoothie recipe are the shrooms. While each individual functional mushroom has its own specific benefits, all while each individual functional mushroom has its own specific benefits, all functional mushrooms work to balance your energy levels, strengthen your immune function, smooth digestion, and enhance your skin’s natural glow.
As I mentioned above, I used Four Sigmatic’s coffee, mushroom blend, as well as their cacao plant protein. Through incorporating this trio in this mocha protein smoothie, some of the incredible benefits include:

Ingredients
- Organic Coffee: I used Four Sigmatic’s Instant Mushroom Coffee With Chaga and Cordyceps, as it provides several health benefits. However, you can use leftover cold coffee or cold brew. You’ll want to use freshly brewed and COOLED coffee, to get that signature coffee flavor. For the smoothie sake, please cool your coffee in this smoothie, as it will cause the ingredients to melt! YICKS!
- Organic Unsweetened Oat Milk: Just a splash! Be sure to use trusted brands – I like MALK Organics or Three Trees.
- Organic Cacao Plant Protein: To make this a mocha smoothie, we’ll be adding a scoop of cacao plant protein to keep us full and satisfied longer, while adding more shrooms. I love Four Sigmatic’s Creamy Cacao Plant Protein for this recipe. It’s made with real unrefined cacao with no grains, gums or fillers. Oh & it’s super delicious. Nevertheless, if you have yet to try Four Sigmatic’s Creamy Cacao Plant Protein, add your favorite chocolate plant protein.
- Four Sigmatic Mushroom Blend: Includes 10 function mushrooms to provide daily immunity and cognitive support.
- Organic Unsalted Peanut Butter: For healthy fats + a boost of plant protein. You can also substitute for any other nut or seed butter, if needed.
- Organic Coconut Oil: A tablespoon for some additional healthy fats, as well as a boost of energy.
- Organic Medjool Date Syrup: To make this mocha smoothie sweeter, we’re adding a bit of date syrup. I love the Joolies brand. It’s made with one ingredient – organic medjool dates.
- Organic Ceylon Cinnamon: It perfectly compliments this peanut butter mocha smoothie recipe.
- Sea Salt: A healthy pinch of sea salt is rich in a ton of minerals and beautifully enhances the flavor.
- Organic Frozen Banana: To create that ultra thick & creamy texture that we all love in a smoothie.

Optional Smoothie Add-Ins
Feel free to truly make this Peanut Butter Mushroom Mocha Smoothie recipe your own! Here are a few suggestions to amp-up this creation:
- Organic Chia Seeds: Add a scoop of organic chia seeds for some omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, selenium, phosphorus, calcium, etc. + it helps thicken this Shroom Shake.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Incorporate a tablespoon of organic ground flax seeds to boost the fiber & minerals in this mocha smoothie.

Tips for Making the Perfect Smoothie
Interested in how to make the absolute perfect Peanut Butter Mushroom Mocha Smoothie recipe? As someone who makes smoothies daily, here are my TOP tips:
- Use Frozen Fruit: Adding a frozen to this smoothie is the only way to go! The ice from the frozen fruits adds thickness to the smoothie.
- Organic Medjool Date Syrup: If you don’t have date syrup on hand, you can easily substitute it for one organic pitted medjool date. I recommend soaking your date in hot water before adding it to your high speed blender as well.
- Adjust Liquid Amount: If you find that your smoothie is too thick to blend, not to worry! Just add a bit more milk, blend, open the cover, scrape down the sides if needed, and blend again. And when possible, always use a larger high-speed blender instead, as it will blend the ingredients much better.
- How To Make: Add your liquid first & blend your powders first, before adding your frozen ingredients. This is my personal favorite way of preparing my smoothies. By blending the liquid & powders first, it ensures that your powders blend completely.
- Smoothie Blending Tip: Start your blender on low to medium speed. If you blend the smoothie too quickly from the beginning, it’s really hard for the blender to properly blend the frozen ingredients – so start lower and then gradually increase the speed.
- Chill Your Glass: There’s nothing better than a cold smoothie, in this case, a Shroom Shake. Put your serving glass in the fridge or freezer while you’re making your smoothie to ensure a chilled smoothie with every sip.
Do I have to use a frozen banana?
The frozen banana in this recipe gives the Shroom Shake a thick & creamy texture. If using a fresh banana, be to add a handful of ice cubes to achieve a cold, thick smoothie. However, if you’re looking to remove the banana altogether, because you’re allergic or simply don’t like them, you can replace it with ½ cup of frozen zucchini, frozen cauliflower, frozen avocado chunks. If you elect to make this a banana free smoothie, I recommend keeping the organic medjool date syrup to maintain its sweetness.
Is it healthy to have a smoothie?
Duh! I wouldn’t post something that was unhealthy. Having a smoothie full of protein, healthy fats, & superfoods for a post workout breakfast is great because you’ll be getting essential vitamins, nutrients, & protein, first thing. However, some smoothies on the market or on the web can be loaded with tons of fruit, added sugar, & nonsense, making them a less healthy option.
What is the best protein powder to use?
For this particular mocha smoothie recipe, I love using Four Sigmatics Cacao Protein Powder. It’s made with real organic ingredients with no grains, gums, or fillers. When selecting a plant protein, it’s crucial to look at the protein content and most importantly, the ingredients.
How can I add protein without using protein powder?
If you don’t have cacao protein powder on hand, you can substitute 4 teaspoons of cacao powder. To increase the protein content, you can add a tablespoon of organic ground flax seeds, organic chia seeds, and/or organic hemp seeds, without changing the taste too much.
Can I make this mocha protein smoothie recipe in advance?
Yes! Feel free to make this copycat SunLife Organics Shroom Shake as is or double it for later. Check out this “How to Prepare Smoothies in Advance” post to achieve the best results.
