This Magic Shell Peanut Butter Cup Avocado Pudding is a protein-packed recipe that can be enjoyed as a decadent breakfast or healthy dessert!

Over-the-top without question. That’s exactly what this Magic Shell Peanut Butter Cup Avocado Pudding recipe is.
This protein-packed breakfast or dessert features nutty peanut butter, plant-based protein, maca powder, rich cacao, sweet honey, & an avocado. I know that including an avocado is unusual, but this addition is what makes the pudding super creamy.
While the protein pudding is of itself dreamy, the magic shell is what takes it over the top, literally. Simply melt dairy-free dark chocolate chips with a smidge of coconut oil & pour over the pudding, then chill for 10 minutes to harden. Trust me, it’s worth the wait!
Why You’ll Love This Peanut Butter Pudding Recipe
- High-Protein Treat: This decadent creation is packed with over 30 grams of plant protein, so it can be enjoyed as a sweet breakfast or healthy dessert!
- Totally Customizable: If you’re not a peanut butter fan, you can easily swap with your favorite nut or seed butter & you can totally replace the honey with organic pure maple syrup to make it vegan!
- Tastes like a Peanut Butter Cup: The flavor & consistency is that found in the classic but in a healthy protein pudding form!
Protein Pudding vs. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup
This magic shell avocado pudding recipe is a healthy protein take on the iconic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.
Personally, I have not partaken in the candy bar in over 10 years because of the ingredients. If you read the label, you’ll find soy lecithin, citric acid, lots of sugar, & a lot of other nonsense. Needless to say, it’s a very unhealthy choice for everyone of all ages.
While this is all my opinion and you can certainly do whatever you want, I always find/make healthier alternatives, such as this Magic Shell Peanut Butter Cup Avocado Pudding. That way you enjoy all the taste bud benefits without the nonsense.

Ingredients
- Organic Unsweetened Non-Dairy Milk: Any non-dairy milk works in this recipe; just be sure to use homemade or trusted brands—I like MALK Organics, Three Trees, or Native Forest.
- Organic Peanut Butter: Obviously! I used creamy organic unsalted peanut butter, but crunchy would also be phenomenal in my opinion. You can also substitute organic peanut butter for any other nut or seed butter if needed.
- Organic Vanilla Plant Protein: Adding a scoop of protein powder helps to keep you full & satisfied longer. When selecting a protein powder brand, it’s crucial to look at the protein content and, most importantly, the ingredients. - Organic Cacao Powder: It’s the perfect addition to make this protein dessert decadent! To be clear, cacao powder is different from regular Dutch cocoa powder. Review this Cacao Powder 101 post to learn more!
- Organic Gelatinized Maca Powder: A smidge of gelatinized maca powder adds a subtle caramel-like flavor. Plus, it has also been known to boost libido, treat menopause symptoms, & promote hormonal balance for both men & women.
- Organic Chia Seeds: Organic chia seeds add some omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, selenium, phosphorus, calcium, & so much more.
- Organic Honey: For some natural sweetness. I always opt for local raw unfiltered honey or Manuka honey. You can certainly use organic pure maple syrup to make it vegan.
- Sea Salt: A healthy pinch of sea salt is rich in a ton of minerals & beautifully enhances the flavor.
- Organic Avocado: Fresh or frozen, both work!
- Organic Magic Shell: Just two ingredients: 100% cacao organic non-dairy unsweetened dark chocolate chips (I love the brand Pascha) & organic coconut oil to thin it out.
- Organic Peanuts: Chopped up & sprinkled over the top!
How to Make
- Blend the Liquids & Powders. To a high-speed blender, add the non-dairy milk, peanut butter, plant protein, cacao, maca, seeds, honey, & sea salt. Blend these ingredients until smooth.
- Blend the Frozen Ingredients. Next, add in the frozen avocado. Blend until smooth & creamy. If needed, you can pause the blender, remove the lid, & scrape down the sides so that everything is fully incorporated. You may need to add a little more liquid depending on how thick/thin you like your pudding.
- Transfer. Pour the pudding into a chilled glass.
- Magic Shell & Chill. Melt the cacao chips, then stir in the coconut oil to thin. Pour a thin layer over the pudding, sprinkle with chopped peanuts & flaky sea salt. Place in the freezer for 10 minutes to harden.
- Serve. Enjoy!

Tips for Making the Perfect Pudding
Interested in how to make the best Magic Shell Peanut Butter Cup Avocado Pudding? Here are my TOP tips:
- Adjust Liquid Amount: If you find that your pudding is too thick to blend, don’t worry! Just add a bit more liquid, blend, open the cover, scrape down the sides if needed, & blend again. When possible, always use a larger high-speed blender instead, as it will blend the ingredients much better.
- How to Make: Add your liquid first & blend your powders first, before adding your frozen ingredients. Blending the liquid & powders first ensures that your powders blend completely.
- Blending Tip: Start your blender on low to medium speed. If you blend the pudding too quickly from the beginning, it’s really hard for the blender to properly blend the frozen ingredients—so start lower and then gradually increase the speed.
