Listen, I despise being sick.
In mid July I surprisingly got very sick. The reason why I say surprisingly is because, I have not experienced that level of sickness in 10+ years.
I consider myself a healthy person, but after that experience, I knew I had to up the ante.
I was endlessly researching natural & holistic remedies to cure my sickness, because your girl isn’t going to take any sort of pill or get a shot, if I can avoid it. You do you though.
Finally, I came across a Ginger & Turmeric Honey Bomb recipe from @thejenjones! She’s so fun & shares healthy creations, so be sure to give her a follow!
Best of all, this natural remedy is made with natural ingredients, isn’t too expensive, & it works!
Disclaimer
I wanted to get this out of the way & put it out there, before getting too far into the post.
By no means am I saying that this Ginger & Turmeric Honey Bomb recipe will cure every sickness, because everybody is different.
You know your body best.
What is a Ginger & Turmeric Honey Bomb?
To put simply, a Ginger & Turmeric Honey Bomb is a concoction of fresh ginger, fresh turmeric, minced ginger, ceylon cinnamon, cayenne pepper, black pepper, & either manuka honey or raw honey.
Ingredients
- Fresh Organic Ginger: This powerful root contains antibiotic effects and can help with infection, inflammation, joint pain, nausea, detoxification, & so much more. The root can be found at the majority of health food stores. I personally get it from Whole Foods.
- Fresh Organic Turmeric: What is considered to be an herb, has been used as a traditional Ayurvedic medicine. Studies have shown that it hass reduced inflammation, improved digestion, & treated digestion problems. Just like ginger, it can be found at your local health foods store. Careful though, because it stains!
- Organic Garlic Cloves: Finely chopped or minced garlic is included in the mix to help fight off the infections for good. Additional benefits of garlic when sick include: improved coughs, reduced fevers, relieve headaches, & ease several other symptoms.
- Organic Ceylon Cinnamon: Ceylon cinnamon is “true” cinnamon & it’s crucial to use that vs. cassava cinnamon.
- Organic Black Pepper: A few cracks of fresh black pepper are essential to this concoction, because it helps increase your body’s ability to absorb turmeric’s beneficial compounds.
- Organic Honey: Manuka honey or local raw honey both work. While manuka honey is on the more expensive side, it does contain strong antibacterial, antioxidant, & anti-inflammatory properties compared to typical honey. If that’s not available to you at this time, local raw honey will work.
Fresh vs. Powder
Even though fresh organic ginger & turmeric are more potent + optimal for the recipe, you can use powdered ginger & turmeric, if you don’t have access to the fresh ingredients.
The alterations are included in the recipe card.
How to Take a Ginger & Turmeric Honey Bomb
This powerful elixir can be taken either by the tablespoon or sipped on in warm water to make a tea.
I personally take it by the spoon, because I kind of like the taste of it.
However, if you’re wanting to make it a tea, just be sure to use warm water & not hot, because it will denature the honey.
When to Take & How Often
Sick: If you’re currently sick, I would take 3 tablespoons per day, but not at the same time. For example, take a tablespoon serving after breakfast, after lunch, and after dinner.
Not Sick: While you can stop taking the honey bomb all together, I like to take it for safe measures. However, I recommend taking it once per day if not sick.
How to Store Ginger & Turmeric Honey Bomb
I have heard mixed thoughts on whether to store it in the fridge or in a dark, cooled spot.
Personally, I store it in my pantry, because it denatures the honey if you refrigerate it.
Quick Reminder
Before ending this post, I wanted to leave a simple, yet important reminder, which is to never double dip.
Obviously for sanitary reasons, but also doing so will reintroduce excess moisture causing honey to ferment and spoil over time.
It should also go without saying, but to not use a dirty/used spoon when measuring out the honey.
Final Thoughts
There you have it, a natural remedy that will help relieve/reduce a cold, flu, or anything else that’s going around.
