Crispy Chickpeas with Sweet Potato Mash & Macadamia Sauce is an ultra-satisfying meal that will please everyone at the table. It’s an easy plant-based bowl that features oven-roasted chickpeas, canned sweet potato mash, and a luxurious macadamia sauce. The perfect comfort food dinner that can be made vegan!

Canned sweet potato puree doesn’t get enough credit. It’s such a convenient and cozy way to enjoy traditional mashed potatoes in a healthy flash. And they were on sale, which caused me to stock up and come up with this creation.
This Crispy Chickpeas with Sweet Potato Mash & Macadamia Sauce is a superb recipe when you’re wanting something a little fancy but still relatively easy to make. The most complex part of the recipe is making the macadamia sauce, because that requires getting out the blender, but don’t let that stop you! It blends in minutes, and the sauce is truly the star of this plant-based bowl.
While this recipe is technically not 100% vegan, because of the honey used in the sauce, but you can certainly swap it with organic pure maple syrup to meet your criteria. Either way, the sauce and the dish itself will be fabulous!
Why This Plant-Based Bowl Will Be Loved
- Regardless if you’re plant-based or not, it will impress everyone at the table.
- Just requires a few pantry staples and about 30 minutes to prepare.
- A vegan-friendly comfort food recipe to meet your needs.
- Easily customizable by including roasted vegetables.

Ingredients
- Organic Chickpeas: The main source of plant-based protein for this bowl. To ensure that they get nice and crispy, don’t forget to drain them well prior to adding them to the sheet pan.
- Organic Sweet Potato Puree: Straight from the can, but you can certainly whip up a batch of homemade if you’re up for that. If you go the canned route, Farmers Market Foods is a trusted and tasty go-to.
- Organic Macadamia Sauce: This is what takes this recipe up a notch. It just includes a few pantry staples to blend up this rich and slightly sweet sauce.
- Organic Seasonings: Garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper.
- Organic Macadamia Nut Oil: This is a great oil for roasting the chickpeas, as it has a high smoke point and it complements the sauce beautifully.

How to Make
- Crispy Chickpeas. Preheat the oven to 400°F (220°C), and add the drained chickpeas to a baking sheet. Toss with the oil and seasonings until well coated. Transfer to the oven for 25 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Sweet Potato Puree. Add the canned sweet potato puree to an oven-safe mixing bowl. Add the seasonings and mix until well combined. Transfer to the 400°F (220°C) for 10 minutes or until warmed through.
- Macadamia Sauce. Add all of the sauce ingredients to a high-speed blender. Blend until creamy. If needed, add more spring water, a tablespoon at a time, to achieve a smooth consistency.
- Serve. Divide the sweet potato mash and crispy chickpeas between bowls. Pair with the macadamia sauce and enjoy!

Tips to Make This Sweet Potato Mash Bowl Perfect
- Organic Sweet Potato Puree: For optimal taste and nutrition, I highly recommend using the Farmers Market Foods brand for the sweet potato puree.
- Mix the Mash: If you want to level up the sweet potato mash, stir in a couple of tablespoons of the macadamia sauce to the warm potatoes just before serving.
- Organic Macadamia Nuts: If organic raw macadamias are not available, I think organic raw cashews would be a great substitute.
- Add Organic Veggies: Feel free to roast up some extra veggies with the chickpeas. Broccoli, cauliflower, red onion, and/or Brussels sprouts all would be great additions.
- Honey: A high-quality honey like local raw unfiltered honey or Manuka honey is key for natural sweetness and healthy benefits.
- Vegan Option: Swap the honey with organic pure maple syrup to make this comfort food recipe vegan.
Storing & Reheating
- Storing: Transfer the chickpeas, sweet potato mash, and the macadamia sauce to separate glass containers. Refrigerate for up to 4 days.
- Reheating: To a 350°F (175°C) oven, add the chickpeas and sweet potato mash to an oven-safe bowl. Place in the oven for 15 minutes. Once warmed through, serve with the macadamia sauce.
