Chocolate Pear Date Protein Smoothie is a healthy vegan breakfast recipe, great for the holiday and winter months. Naturally sweetened, super creamy, and perfectly spiced, this banana-free smoothie can easily pass as a dessert in a glass!

Pears are totally underrated, and it’s about time that they got a vegan chocolate protein smoothie spotlight, which is why I created this healthy winter blend.
When frozen pears get blended, they transpire an unexpected yet dreamy consistency. And with a nutrient-rich serving of cacao powder and naturally sweetened with a Medjool date, it puts this smoothie into the dessert category (without the unwanted nonsense)! My kind of breakfast smoothie!
Along with a serving of plant-based protein, healthy-fat seeds, and a pinch of Ceylon cinnamon, this creation is both warming and refreshing. The perfect balance for a healthy holiday smoothie to enjoy on a winter day (by a fireplace if you’ve got one)!
Why This Pear Protein Smoothie Deserves a Spotlight
- Milkshake-Vibes: Blending frozen pears results in the creamiest consistency, giving it a dessert-worthy experience, especially with the addition of cacao powder.
- A Healthy Holiday Smoothie: We’re taking full advantage of the seasonal produce and blending it up into good use to enjoy a cozy, naturally sweetened smoothie!
- Protein-Packed Pear Perfection: This vegan chocolate smoothie includes over 25 grams of protein at pears’ peak season!

Healthy Ingredients for Your Pear Date Protein Smoothie
- Organic Unsweetened Non-Dairy Milk: Hemp milk, almond milk, cashew milk, or creamy coconut milk (if you’re feeling a bit tropical—think Christmas on the beach). Regardless if it’s homemade or store-bought, be sure that the ingredients are clean to ensure a healthy breakfast blend. If I’m not blending up my own, my favorite trusted brands include Three Trees, MALK Organic, and Native Forest.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: A sprinkle adds fiber, omegas, and extra nutrients. A great alternative would be organic chia seeds.
- Organic Raw Cacao Powder: Packed with antioxidants, magnesium, and that rich chocolatey flavor that we all love. And without going into great length here, there’s a difference between cacao powder and Dutch cocoa powder. Be in the know here!
- Organic Unflavored Plant-Based Protein: A serving ensures that this healthy chocolate smoothie is a filling and fueling meal. Per usual, grab one with 20+ grams of plant-based protein and clean ingredients (you should recognize the words). For my top brand recommendations, review this post.
- Organic Vanilla Powder: This sounds a little contradictory, but a hint of vanilla powder allows the other ingredients to really come to life. Just trust me, even if that doesn’t make sense.
- Organic Medjool Date: The perfect smoothie addition to add some natural sweetness. Please be sure to remove the pit prior to tossing the date in. Your blender will thank you!
- Organic Spices: Ceylon cinnamon, along with a healthy pinch of sea salt brings out the cozy and decadent vibes.
- Organic Frozen Pears: A ripe and juicy Bartlett pear, if we’re being specific. Regardless of your pear preference, be sure that it’s frozen to create that ultra-creamy consistency.

Step-by-Step: Blending Your Chocolate Protein Smoothie
- Blend the Liquids, Powders, & Date. First, add the unsweetened non-dairy milk, dry ingredients, and the pitted Medjool date. Blend until completely smooth and not chalky or gritty.
- Blend the Frozen Pear. Next, toss in the frozen pear. Blend until a thick, creamy, and smooth consistency is achieved. If desired, add a splash of liquid to obtain your preferred smoothie texture.
- Serve. Pour into a chilled glass and enjoy!

Personalize Your Vegan Chocolate Protein Smoothie
Below are a few optional add-ins to make your pear and date smoothie one-of-a-kind. These extras will only level up the nutrition, creaminess, and deliciousness!
- Organic Nut Butter or Nut: If you’re feeling a bit nutty, a spoonful of organic raw nut butter. I think organic raw almond butter, raw cashew butter, raw walnuts, or raw pecans would all be yummy additions.
- Organic Plain Coconut Yogurt: Swirl in some coconut yogurt to enhance the creaminess and probiotics.
- Organic Greens: If you’re new to green smoothies, organic baby spinach is always a great starting point, as you can’t taste it whatsoever, but it will change the color slightly.
- Organic Superfoods: Take this cozy breakfast smoothie up a notch with your go-to superfoods. I’ve made a post all about their benefits, along with my favorites, here!
Creamy Chocolate Pear Protein Smoothie Perfection
As a daily smoothie maker myself, I have put together a collection of my top tips to achieve the perfect, dessert-in-a-glass-worthy smoothie every time! Take notes!
- Use a Ripe & Frozen Pear: This is what puts this smoothie into the milkshake category, as it transpires a thick and creamy texture.
- Liquid Ratio: If you’re not into thick smoothies, no hard feelings; just add a splash of extra liquid to achieve your desired smoothie consistency. I always recommend just a ¼ cup at a time, as it’s a lot easier to add more.
- Your Blender Matters: My favorite blender is my stainless steel 48 oz. Vitamix. It’s non-toxic, powerful, and blends perfectly without fail. A bonus is that their machines come with a tamper, which can come in handy when you’re wanting a thick and smooth smoothie.
- Blend it Right: The blending steps that included instructions are a little specific, but it’s my go-to method to make everything smooth and creamy. No clumpy or chunky smoothies allowed here!
- Be Intentional: Please don’t throw everything into the blender, crank it up on high, and walk away for a couple of minutes. Instead, turn on your blender, start from the lowest speed, and gradually increase the speed once everything starts to come together.
Storing & Sharing this Healthy Holiday Smoothie
- Storing: Transfer your freshly blended smoothie to a glass and seal it with a lid. Refrigerate for up to 2 days, giving it a good stir prior to enjoying.
- Make it a Double: Multiply the healthy smoothie recipe by two as written to save for meal prep or share with loved ones this winter season!
