Chocolate Cherry Almond Smoothie Bowl Ingredients
This chocolate cherry smoothie is creamy and perfectly sweet, so it actually tastes like you’re indulging into a chocolate cherry. Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
- Organic Frozen Banana: A frozen banana adds more sweetness and creaminess to this smoothie bowl!
- Organic Frozen Cherries: The star of this smoothie bowl. I love using frozen tart cherries but regular frozen cherries or a cherry & berry mix would be perfect.
- Organic Cacao Powder: To make the smoothie chocolatey! To be clear, cacao powder is different from regular dutch cocoa powder. Cacao powder is pure, raw cacao versus processed. Plus, cacao is rich in magnesium.
- Organic Almond Butter: Add a touch of creaminess & healthy fat with a some almond butter. Peanut butter works too, but almond butter tastes so much better in this!
- Organic Almond Extract: Adding almond extract to this chocolate cherry smoothie transpires the flavors to next-level delicious. Trust me! The almond almond extract makes this smoothie bowl taste like chocolate cherry ice cream. YUM!
- Organic Spinach: Adding a handful of fresh spinach will change the color a little, but you can’t even taste it at all!
- Organic Unsweetened Non-dairy Milk: You only need a little liquid to blend, since it’s a smoothie bowl. I used unsweetened almond milk, but you can use any non-dairy milk that you enjoy.
- Organic Ground Flax Seeds: Flaxseeds are loaded with nutrients, high in omega-3 fats, rich in dietary fiber, and you can’t even taste them. They are completely optional, so no problem if you don’t have them…yet!

Tips for making the Perfect Smoothie Bowl
To make the perfect smoothie bowl, make sure to follow these tips!
- Use a frozen banana and frozen cherries to achieve a thick consistency.
- Start with a little liquid as possible, and add more only as needed. You can always add more, but once you add too much, you can’t go back! Pausing in between blending to scrape down sides helps as well.
- Use a high-speed blender, with a tamper, to ensure that your smoothie bowl achieves a thick and creamy texture.
- Place your serving bowl in the freezer before you begin preparing this recipe and remove it when smoothie is ready. This will ensure that your smoothie bowl stays cold as you enjoy it.
Fresh versus Frozen Ingredients
The key to making smoothie bowls is using frozen ingredients. By adding frozen banana & frozen cherries to your smoothie, you will achieve a thicker result, so that you can add toppings, without them sinking. I usually start with a little non-dairy milk and add more, if needed, until I reach the desired thickness.
