Is eating organic actually healthier? This post shares with you beneficial research of why eating organic foods is better for you!

I can vividly remember when eating organic started to become popularized. Or better put, when I became aware of the organic options around me.
I kept asking myself…is eating organic really healthier?
Once I put that question out there, the answers were drawn to me.
Since there are several questions about organic food, I wanted to dedicate a blog post to the importance of eating organic and chat about why I choose to put organic foods in my body.
What is Organic?
Great question! Organic is relating to, yielding, or involving the use of food produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or animal origin without employment of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides.
Organic produce refers to foods that are grown without the use of:
- Toxins & Pesticides
- Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)
- Antibiotics or Synthetic Growth Hormones
- Artificial Flavors, Colors, or Preservatives
- Petroleum-Based Fertilizers
- Sewage-Based Fertilizers

Health Risks Associated With Pesticides
I’m sure and I hope you’ve heard that pesticides are not good for you.
Pesticides are included in non-organic foods and products. In fact, foods that are not organic have many different toxins. Over time, these toxins weaken the body at the cellular level and increase risks for certain diseases.
In reality, it is estimated that nearly six billion pounds of pesticides are used throughout the globe each year, potentially contaminating our food, air, and water.
Health problems with consuming pesticides:
- Hormone disruption
- Skin, eye, and lung irritation
- Brain and nervous system toxicity
- Cancer
Possible chronic effects from repeated exposure to pesticides:
- Blood disorders
- Reproductive effects
- Nerve disorders
- Birth defects
Benefits of Eating Organic
Now that we got that scary stuff out of the way… let’s look at the benefits of eating organic.
To give you a direct answer. Yes, eating organic is important! There have been multiple studies showing that eating organic is beneficial for our health.
- Organic foods have a much greater profile of nutrients and antioxidants, and a much lower content of toxins like heavy metals and pesticides. Plus, they taste better!
- Choosing organic foods can help reduce exposure to chemicals that may disrupt our bodies’ natural rhythms.
- Organic practices also help to support the planet through utilizing more sustainable methods and relying less on chemicals to limit pests.
- Converting to an organic diet, our food choices serve us better, helping us achieve optimal health and wellness.
Organic Facts
It’s kind of disheartening to know that our socioeconomic structure is set up in such a way that poor quality, processed foods are made more affordable, while healthier foods are often priced at a higher cost.
For instance, an organic avocado can easily cost you $3.00 or more at many natural food stores. On the other hand, you can get three cheeseburgers for the same price at McDonald’s right now. So much goes into making that burger, while an avocado literally falls off a tree.
When you look at the price difference between organic and non-organic, it can sometimes be a lot. You may wonder, does it really matter?
That being said, when possible, eat organic ingredients, because you are worth it!
Ways to Eat Organic for Less
As I mentioned above, eating organic can add up, but if you make a plan, you’re more likely to succeed and not overspend. Below are a few strategies that I use when it comes to buying organic foods for less.
- Buy in bulk.
- Make a grocery shopping list.
- Visit your local farmers market.
- Shop at two natural grocers to compare prices.
- Cook at home.
Final Thoughts
My intention of the post was not to scare you, but rather educate you to make the best decision for your health and the health of your loved ones. At the end of the day, my hope is that this post inspires you to make the choice to eat organic foods.
Xoxo.
Christin.
